The Black Action Collective Hosts 2022 Unite Against Racism Conference - October 3rd – 5th
The Black Action Collective is excited to announce the 2022 Unite Against Racism Conference will be hosted October 3-5, 2022. The conference theme is “Creating a Culture of Belonging: Closing the Disparities in our Community!” The conference will be virtual as a safety precaution and to allow access to our Showing up for Racial Justice community.
The online conference will feature presentations remarks, performances, and plenaries that provides a unique collaborative space for discussions and strategies to continue advancing racial justice. Register today to join us in October.

Jam Skating Workshop w/ Darryl Demps
(October 6, 2022 8-11pm, 18+ only.)
Learn jam skating foundational moves with Darryl Demps! We will go over basic footwork and floorwork to create a short routine! Let’s work! Toe-Plugs recommended
In addition to the group workshop, Darryl will be available for private lessons. If you are interested in 1-on-1 instruction, please reserve your time directly with The School of Skating.
Registration for this workshop includes FREE admission to Adult Skate Night, immediately following the workshop (October 6, 2022 8-11pm, 18+ only.) A great opportunity to practice those moves!
All workshop participants will be entered to win a pair of VNLA V-Line skates!

The second show of the TheatreSquared 2022/2023 season — opening on October 10 — is "Detroit 67", by MacArthur “Genius” Fellow Dominique Morisseau. Morisseau's play tells the story of ambitious siblings against the backdrop of the 1967 Detroit riots. Winner of the Edward M. Kennedy Prize for Drama, this resonant play sizzles to the soundtrack of the 1960s.

Hope Walk 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk - October 15th
Crown of Hope is a partnership between the Black Action Collective and Hair Couture to provide inclusive wigs that represent and celebrate Black and Latina cancer patients in Northwest Arkansas. The initiative will provide free naturally textured, curly, and coily wigs for Black and Latina patients at Washington Regional J.B. Hunt Transport Services Cancer Support Home boutique and Hair Couture Beauty Supply Boutique.
Music Moves Hosts 2nd Annual Good News & The Blues Fundraiser - October 16th
Save the date - the 2nd annual Good News & The Blues fundraiser is back on October 16, 2022, in Fayetteville, Arkansas! Good News & The Blues celebrates two of the most influential genres of Black music - Gospel and Blues - with a dinner featuring the best Soul Food in the south. We feed souls and fill bellies while providing an opportunity for donors to support the important work of honoring Black voices and contributions in our region.
Yin Yoga for Social Justice is perfect for people like us yearning for calm in a world of chaos. Try out Day by Day Yoga Studio every Thursday with instructor Shakira Eakins from 9 to 10am. She also leads a gentle flow from 6 to 7pm every Thursday as well!

Call For Nominations ~ NWA MLK Council “Salute to Greatness” Awards – Due October 8th
The Northwest Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Council is accepting nominations for the “Salute to Greatness” Awards. The awards are given to individuals and an organization in the Northwest Arkansas community that exemplifies excellence in leadership and has a demonstrated commitment to social responsibility in the spirit and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The award categories are as follows:
Dr. John L Colbert Lifetime Achievement Award: In recognition of an individual who has attained merit while enhancing the advancement of his/her community.
Ernestine White-Gibson Individual Achievement Award: This award is given to an individual who has given to his/her community through service, leadership, and commitment.
Rodney Momon Youth Award: In recognition of a youth or young adult who has exemplified strong character, leadership, and service to the community.
Rev. J.A. Hawkins Posthumous Award: In recognition of a person whose life and service had a positive impact on the community.
Organization of Year Award: In recognition of a corporation or organization that has donated time, effort, and financial assistance to the upgrading of the community.
You may nominate an individual for more than one award.
The awards will be presented at the 2023 NWA MLK Recommitment Celebration.
Nominations are due no later than Saturday, October 8, 2022

Back by Popular Demand. Hey there NWA! We’re hosting an evening to meet your candidates for state and local government! Mark your calendars to tune in October 10th at 7 p.m. via Zoom to hear candidates introduce themselves, share their platform, and answer YOUR questions. From now until the event you can DM us questions you’d like your government representatives to answer! This forum is open to all members of the public and candidates running for office. Let’s not only show up to vote, but show up INFORMED. Political change starts with action and accountability. Bring your questions and a friend and let’s get to know the candidates!
